DHAKA: Jisan Ahmed, a top fugitive terrorist of Bangladesh, has been arrested in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
He will be brought back to Bangladesh soon after the completion of legal process, the police headquarters said.
Sohail Rana, Assistant Inspector General of Police Headquarters (AIG-Media), confirmed the matter to media on Friday (October 4).
He said the top terrorist, Jisan, was arrested on the initiative of the NCB (INTERPOL National Central Bureau) unit at the Bangladesh Police Headquarters and in collaboration with the NCB (Interpol) Dubai.
NCB Dubai confirmed the matter on Thursday (October3), he said adding that Jisan will be brought back to Bangladesh soon after due legal process.
Police said Dubai authorities are preparing to hand over Jisan to the appropriate authorities. Zisan was carrying an Indian passport. His name is Ali Akbar Chowdhury there.
Jisan is one of the top 20 terrorists in the country, announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Bounty was announced for his arrest. He controlled criminal activities in several areas including Gulshan, Banani, Badda, Motijheel in the capital. He was accused in several cases of extortion and tender cases.
Interpol has issued a red alert in his name. There are allegations of Jisan killing and explosives being carried out on the agency's website.
On May 14, 2003, during a drive to arrest Jisan, two DB police officers were killed in a burstfire by his associates in Malibagh, Dhaka.
The killings created a row across the country. Jisan fled to India when top terrorist Pichi Hannan was killed during Operation Clean Heart. From there, he went to Dubai.
After the arrest of two Jubo League leaders GK Shamim and Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan in a recent anti-corruption campaign, Jisan's name came up again.
