DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday (September 11) said Awami League government has provided electricity to 93 percent homes in the country.
“Country’s 93 pc houses are now getting electricity. At the same time, the power generation has exceeded 22,000 MW in the country,” the premier Hasina was inaugurating a new solar power station at a video conference this noon.
The Prime Minister said that Awami League could not come to government in 2001, but we had left many power plants. The BNP was too busy to earn money. Even if they could finish what we started, people are relieved. They are pleased by completing only what were at the end.
She also alleged that the BNP had reduced to 3,200 megawatts of power from four thousand megawatts that left by the Awami League government in 2001.
Sheikh Hasina said, “We had increased the literacy rate. After coming to power in 2009, we see a decrease in the literacy rate.”
'The pressure on me to sell gas was in the 2001, we said we don't know how much reserve we have, let it out. After keeping 50 years’ reserve then we will sell. But the BNP agreed. The United States and India were keen to buy. We disagreed that. So, we could not come to power”.
There is no gas as per our demand and demand is being met by bringing in LNG, the premier added.
