DHAKA: The commercial operation of 'Community Bank Bangladesh Limited', established by Bangladesh Police, has begun on Wednesday (September 11).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the bank's commercial operation through a video conference from Ganabhaban this morning.
The total number of public and private banks in the country rose to 59 as the commercial operation of the Community Bank, established by Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust (BPWT) has started.
Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary, Inspector General of Bangladesh Police, is the chairman of the community bank while Mashihul Haque Chowdhury, Managing Director of the bank.
The bank's commercial operation began at Motijheel, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Habiganj and Chittagong, including corporate branch at Police Plaza Concord in the capital.
At a meeting of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Bank held on October 29, the activities of the new bank have approved. Bangladesh Bank listed it as Scheduled Bank on November 1 of that year.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, public safety department secretary at Home Ministry Mostafa Kamal Uddin, were among others present.
Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary, the Inspector General of Police, delivered welcome speech at the programme.
