President, PM pay homage to Bangabandhu

DHANMONDI (DHAKA): President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday morning (August 15) paid deep homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of his 44th death anniversary and the National Mourning Day.

Abdul Hamid placed floral wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No.32 at around 6:30am, followed by Sheikh Hasina.

After the placing of wreaths, a smartly turned out contingent of Bangladesh Armed Forces gave a guard of honour as bugle played the last post.

The President and the Prime Minister, also the eldest daughter of the Father of the Nation, stood in solemn silence in front of the portrait for some time.

Later, a munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of Bangabandhu and martyrs of August 15.

Saima Wazed Hossain, daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, cabinet members, Prime Minister’s advisors, chiefs of three services, senior leaders of Awami League and 14-Party and senior government officials were present.

Later, Sheikh Hasina, as the president of Awami League, flanked by party’s general secretary Obaidul Quader and senior leaders placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
