Trawler capsizes in Bay: 16 fishermen missing

PATHARGHATA (BARGUNA): A total of 16 fishermen went missing as a trawler with 17 fishermen on board capsized after being caught in a storm in the Bay of Bengal on Sunday (August 4).

Anwar Hossain owner of trawler ‘FB Zakaria’, said 17 fishermen from different areas of Noakhali went to deep sea with his trawler for fishing. The trawler was caught by storm and sank with in Purbolalbouya area of the Bay of Bengal around 3:00am. 

Of them, a fisherman, Mahmud, son of Mohammad Omar Ali of Noakhali, was rescued after remained floating for seven hours by another trawler FB Arif while returning to home after fishing. 16 others and the trawler went missing, said Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of the Barguna District Fisheries Trawler Owners Association, at 8am on Sunday.

Quoting the trawler owner, Golam Mostafa Chowdhury told Banglanews that another trawler has already started for the spot to rescue the missing fishermen and trawler.
