DHAKA:  Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained a member of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from Chawk Bazaar area of the capital for distributing leaflets provocative of extremism and militancy.

The detainee was-- identified as Rashed Mahmud alias Mithun, 26—a resident of Azimpur Govt. Officer's Quarter.

RAB-1 deputy commander Major Ashraful Haque confirmed the detention to Banglanews on Wednesday (July 31). 

110 copies of leaflets, 2 books on extremism and a mobile were seized from him. He was involved in media cell of Hizb ut-Tahrir, which produces and distributes leaflets, said Ashraful Haque.

The process to take legal action against him is underway, Ashraful Haque also said.
