DHAKA: Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said people who spread the rumors about the construction of the Padma Bridge to be brought to justice quickly.
He said this at a contract signing ceremony to recruit the consultant for reviewing design of Dhaka-Ashulia elevated expressway and supervising the construction work at Setu Bhaban on Thursday (July 11).
Obaidul Quader said the Prime Minister ordered to find out those who spread rumors that “Man's head will be needed to build Padma Bridge.” They will be found out shortly. The matter has also been discussed with the intelligence agencies.
He said that ill efforts of creating panic are underway over the Padma Bridge. We do not understand how such an unrealistic and unscientific topic is brought forth. Those, who have done this, must be brought to justice.
The minister said the main Padma Bridge progressed 81 percent while the overall progress of the entire bridge project is 71 percent. There is only one piling of the Padma Bridge left for installation.
Regarding the Dhaka-Ashulia Expressway, Obaidul Quader said that after the necessary preparation, the main work of the project will be started in December this year.
Under the contract of nearly 340 million US dollars, two organizations -- Tecnica Y proyectos S. A of Spain and the DOHWA-DDC of Bangladesh -- will work jointly as a consulting company.
