DHAKA: The ban imposed on plying rickshaw on three main roads of the capital city has come into effect from Sunday (July 7).

The routes are Gabtoli to Azimpur (Mirpur road), Science Lab to Shahbagh and Kuril to Badda via Khilgaon and Sayedabad.

The decision of removing rickshaw, van, human hauler and other illegal vehicles was taken at the first meeting of a Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) committee formed over bringing back discipline on Dhaka roads.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon chaired the meeting that held on July 3.

Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Dhaka Road Transport Owners' Association (DRTOA) assured all-out support so that the ban cannot cause suffering to city commuters.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been given the charge to ensure the ban.

However, DTCA is set to take its next decision after observing situation for five days.
