DHAKA: The government on Thursday (June 13) has proposed a Tk 5 lakh 23 thousand 190 crore budget for 2019-20, fixing the target of attaining a higher GDP growth of 8.20 percent in the financial year.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal started presenting the national budget in Parliament around 3 pm. He placed the 48th national budget and also his first one in the House with Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina read out the rest of the budget script on behalf of the finance minister.
Of the deficit, Tk 63,848 crore will be financed from external sources and Tk 77,363 crore from domestic sources.
The revenue target of the budget has been fixed at Tk 3,77,810 crore which will be 13.1 percent of GDP. Out of this, Tk 3,25,600 crore will accrue from NBR sources. Non-NBR and non-tax revenue target has been fixed Tk 37,710 crore.
Earlier in the day, the cabinet in its special meeting at Sangsad Bhaban chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the proposed budget for fiscal 2019-20.
The theme of the FY20 budget is “Bangladesh on a Pathway to Prosperity; Time is Ours, Time for Bangladesh.”
Later, the new budget has to be passed by June 30 and will be implemented from July 1.
