CHANDPUR: A cargo ship carrying 685 tonnes of cement clinker sank in the Meghna after being hit by launch 'MV Mayour-2' in Chandpur estuary part Wednesday (June 12).

No casualties have been reported in the incident that happened around 3pm.

Seven crewmen on board the sunken 'MV Shaon-1' were rescued by Chandpur Naval Police.  

The master of the MV Mayour-2 lodged a General Diary (GD) with Chandpur Model Police Station over the incident, Chandpur Naval Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Taher told Banglanews.

Cargo ship MV Shaon-1, leaving India on June 1, was heading to Narayanganj via Chandpur.

Launch master Shahidul Islam estimated the loss at Tk 2.5 crore, in the GD, said the OC.
