DHAKA: Foreign Minister Dr Abdul Momen ruled out the claims that Bangladesh has stopped issuing visas for Pakistan nationals as part of a protest.

"News in various media stated that Bangladesh has suspended visas for Pakistan. We haven't stopped visa for Pakistan. Maybe someone wasn't given visa there (Pakistan). It could be. But, visa from here hasn't been suspended," he told reporters at his office Tuesday (May 21).

"Application was filed to extend visa period of our counsellor in Islamabad mission. But Pakistan hasn't extended his visa. How our mission workforce will work there if they don't allow visa!," added the minister.

However, a visa extension application submitted by Bangladesh diplomat Muhammad Iqbal, Counsellor (Press) at Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad remained pending at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for over four months; over which diplomatic strife has emerged between the two countries.
