BARISHAL: One of the safest, comfortable and luxurious ways of traveling for the south-bound passengers from the capital is the waterways and water vessels.
Every year during the Eid-ul-Fitr, the pressure of the passengers increases on the southern route. For this reason, the private and public-run vessels are given special services to handle passenger pressure.
Barishal-Dhaka route will offer 31 special services, including five steamers of BIWTC and three day services of Green Line Company and Adventure Company.
According to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), there will be 52 water vessels in southern region of the country, including Dhaka and Barishal route, before and after Eid. Of these, only Barishal-Dhaka route will offer 23 special services.
Apart from these, 5 more steamers of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) will provide special services to home goers using this route. Besides, two vessels of Green Line Company and one of Adventure Company will be in a day service.
BIWTA's Barishal Naval Safety and Traffic Management Division said that Barishal-Dhaka is the largest waterway of the country. Because of this, the number of private launch services is increasing day by day. Last month, new ship MV Manami has been added on this route. With this, there are 21 launches in the regular passenger services on Barishal-Dhaka Route.
BIWTA Traffic Inspector (TI) Kabir Hossain told Banglanews that 21 private-run launches, including the day service, are currently in operation on Barishal-Dhaka Route. According to the rotation, there are 8 to 10 launches are plying on Dhaka and Barishal route. But there is no rotation method during the Eid journeys. Owners offer double trips daily with all types of launches that’s called Eid Special Service.
He said that 23 private-run launches will ply directly at Barishal-Dhaka route this year. Besides, Catamaran type vessel Adventure-5 will start from May 16 as Day service. This ship was inaugurated on the last Eid.
