DHAKA: A Dhaka court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe a case against former officer in charge of Sonagazi Model Police Station Moazzem Hossian filed under the Digital Security Act.
Judge of the Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Ash-Shams Jaglul Hussein on Monday (April 15) issued the order after accepting the petition as the case and asked a PBI official, equivalent to the rank of deputy inspector general, to submit a probe report on April 30.
Earlier in the day, Supreme Court Lawyer Barrister Sayedul Haque Sumon filed the case on charge of spreading a video on social media on Feni madrasa girl Nusrat Jahan Rafi's statement at the police station under section 26, 29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act.
According to the case statement, the OC called Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, to the police station on March 27 after she filed a case against principal Maulana Siraj Ud Doula, for sexually harassing her.
During interrogation at the police station, he asked her offensive and unpleasant questions over the incident. Later, the OC spread the video on social media.
Earlier on April 6, Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa in Sonagazi upazila of Feni, was set ablaze allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case filed against Principal Siraj Ud Doula of the madrasa for sexually assaulting her in March.
Later on April 10 night, Nusrat, the madrasha girl from Feni’s Sonagazi upazila, lost her battle for life at burn and plastic surgery unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
On that day, OC Moazzem Hossain was withdrawn on allegation of his non cooperation with Nusrat family dealing with sexual assault case.
The heinous incident occurred days after her mother on March 28 filed a case against the madrasa principal SM Siraj-ud-Doula on charge of harassing the girl sexually on March 27.
