Nation observes one-minute blackout

DHAKA: The nation observed a one-minute blackout last night to recall the crackdown carried out by Pakistani military juntas upon the unarmed Bengalis on the black night on March 25 in 1971.

Lights were switched off for one minute from 9pm to 9.01pm on Monday (March 25) across the country.

In observance of the blackout, necessary law enforcers were deployed to ensure security for the countrymen.

However, establishments of emergency services remained out of the purview of the one-minute blackout.

Earlier on March 11, 2017, the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) unanimously adopted a resolution to observe March 25 as “Gonohotya Dibos” (Genocide Day).

Later on March 20 in 2017, the cabinet division in a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair unanimously endorsed the decision.
