SAVAR (DHAKA): No decision has been taken to hike gas price, says Prime Minister’s Advisor for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury.
Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury said, “Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is discussing the matter. Various companies have given proposals. Consumers also made requests and comments.”
He told reporters after attending a 3-day ‘International Conference on Energy and Power Engineering-2019,’ organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at BRAC University in Savar on Thursday (March 14).
Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury also said,” Bangladesh has limited stock of gas. The government is importing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), but LNG price is higher than domestic gas price. It won’t be expensive for consumers given the adjustment of prices between domestic and imported gas.”
“When new gas arrives in the country, priority will be given to electricity, then industries and then the fertilizer factories. Afterwards, households will come under consideration,” Towfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury added.
