Man to die for killing wife in Kushtia

KUSHTIA: A district court on Thursday (July 12) sentenced death penalty to a man for killing his wife, Mili Akhter, in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia.

Judge Munshi Md Moshiur Rahman of Kushtia District and Sessions Judge’s court, also judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, passed the order with Tk 50,000 fine for the convict.

The death row convict is Tariqul Islam Titu, 36, son of one Riazul Islam. He is absconding. 

According to court PP Akram Hossain Dulal, Tariqul and his family used to torture wife Mili, who he married in 1998, over dowry. He also sent Mili to her father’s house several times to collect the dowry. After failing to get the demanded dowry, Tariqul killed Mili on July 6 in 2009. On the next day, victim’s brother filed a murder case with Bheramara police station.
