DHAKA: The news reports of vulgar behavior of a young Bangladeshi man on a flight from Malaysia to Bangladesh went viral in Malaysian and Bangladeshi media for the last few days.

Reports said that the guy stripped down his clothes in the flight. He was detained after the flight landed at Dhaka airport. Afterwards, Airport Police handed over him to the family, citing him a mental disorder patient. But in the meantime, media already published reports on this incident. Psychiatrists are now saying this kind of news is an irresponsibility of media.
Nur-E-Azam Mia, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Airport Police Station told Banglanews, “The young man is mentally sick. He was also undressed when he was in our custody. We handed over him to the airport court. His family recovered him from there and admitted him to the hospital”.

“His father told us that his son fell sick mentally while staying in Malaysia. The problem increased gradually. Therefore, he was taken to Dhaka soon for treatment.”

Meanwhile, Bangladeshi and Malaysian media outlets have published reports on the young man. Peoples started hurling comments in awry ways on Facebook and other social media sites by using his photo. International media sites also published the report citing reports from Bangladeshi and Malaysian media.

While some news media published his pictures, social media users posted photos showing him naked and his local residence as well. Specialists assuming that this kind of activity would affect the young man to continue a normal life.

The incident occurred on the OD162 flight of Malindo Airlines Saturday (March 3).

Reports said that the passenger had started behaving strangely not long after the aircraft had taken off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. At 10,000 feet, he was said to have stripped naked and started to watch porn at his seat, ignoring other passengers around him. When the cabin crew head tried to calm him down, the man turned aggressive and attacked the crew member.

Psychiatrist Prof Ali Hossain said, anyone should realize by reading only within this part of report that this kind of behavior is not possible by a normal people. Passengers and flight authorities should have handled the issue properly.

He said, if the journalists believe that a 20-year-old educated young man gets naked in a flight happily, then it is a result of their irresponsibility.

“This news reports won’t forgo the youth even when he will recover from the disorder in future. Those reports may affect him with depression and anxiety”, added the psychiatrist.
