SATKHIRA: Police detained seven persons for interrogation over the killing of a class-X student of Satkhira Police Lines School.
The detainees are—Hafizul Islam, 60, Mehedi Hasan Faisal, 15, Zubair Hossain, 18, Rony, 18, Shahinur, 24, Abu Hasan, 38 and Omi, 14.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station Inspector (Intelligence) Mohidul Haq told Banglanews the seven persons were detained in the drives carried out in different parts of Satkhira town at the night.
The body of Shakib Hossain, the deceased, was sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Police and other sources said that Shakib along with his classmates—Rashed and Omi went to a waz mahfil (religious gathering of sermons) at Bokchora area on Tuesday evening (February 13). They engaged in an altercation with one Abdul Qadir and Shanto from Kamalnagar colony area over a trifling matter.
The dispute was solved there.
Afterwards, Qader, Shanto and several others attacked Shakib, Rashed and Omi while they were at Bokchora Bypass Road en route to home after the mahfil ended.
Shakib and his friends were beaten with sticks made from boughs.
Rashed and he were critically injured while Omi managed to flee from the scene.
The duo were rushed to a hospital where physicians pronounced Shakib dead.
Shakib, 16, student at Satkhira Police Lines School and son of one Nazrul Islam, a police constable at Soroshkathi Police Outpost in Kolaroa upazila.
