COX’S BAZAR: Four members of a Rohingya family, including three children, were killed in a fire caused by candle at Kutupalong refugee camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar on early Friday (Jan 12).

The deceased are Nur Saba, 30, wife of Abdur Rahim, their daughters Dilshan Bibi, 12, Asma Bibi, 5 and son Amin Sharif, 8.

Cox’s Bazar additional superintendent of police (ASP) and Ukhia-Teknaf circle in-charge Chai Lau Marma confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Friday evening (January 12).

He said the Abdur Rahim family fled from Myanmar and took shelter at Ukhia’s Kutupalang transit point since the Myanmar army stepped on crackdown on Rakhine state’s Rohingyas back on Aug 25 last year.

On Thursday night, their tent caught on fire from the candle blaze and spread quickly while four family members were sleeping inside. They suffered serious burn injuries and taken to nearest Red Crescent makeshift hospital. Later in the night, they all died there. However, husband Abdur Rahim was out of the tent during fire.
