PABNA: At least 10 people were hurt in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of ruling Awami League, over establishing supremacy on the campus of Pabna Medical College Hospital on Friday (January 12).

Following the in-fighting, Pabna Medical College was declared shut for an indefinite period and the administration asked students to leave hostel within 2:00pm.

The in-fighting started on Thursday night (Jan 11). Injured persons were taken to Pabna General Hospital.  

Seeking anonymity, one student said two factions led by Pabna Medical College unit of BCL president Mahfuzur Rahman Nayan and another by general secretary Oditiya -- had clashed three times over establishing dominance in the campus leaving 10 injured.  

Pabna Medical College principle Md Riazul Huq said, “I have heard about the matter. It is unaccepted that students will fight each other over petty issues and ruin the reputation of the college. The college is declared shut for indefinite period of time. We are investigating the matter and will take stern action against those who are responsible.”

Pabna sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Abdur Razzak said, on information, police took charge of the situation and sent the injured students to hospital. Extra police were deployed in and around the campus.
