DHAKA: Bangla Academy award-winning poet and essayist Shantanu Kaiser died under treatment at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Dhaka Tuesday night (April 11).
He was 67.
He left behind two sons and a daughter.
Shantanu was taken to a hospital in Comilla, where he lives, after falling sick on March 17. On duty physicians said he suffered a heart attack and admitted him to CCU (coronary care unit).
Later, the poet was shifted to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka.
Deceased’s elder brother Wadud Raihan told Banglanews that the body will be taken to Bangla Academy so that people from all walks of life can pay their respect to him.
Later, the body will be taken to Comilla. A namaz-e-janaza will be held there. From there, the body will be taken to Chandpur where he will be laid to rest by his father’s grave.
Born in Faridpur upazila of Chandpur district on December 30 in 1954, Shantanu Kaiser acquired his MA degree from Dept. of English in Dhaka University.
He taught at several colleges. He has published 45 books.
