DHAKA: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) held its own officials responsible for misidentifying jute mill worker Jahalom as one Abu Salek for which he had to stay behind bars for three years.

ACC, in a report filed with High Court Thursday (July 11), pointed out the mistake.

ACC Director (legal) also chief of an investigation committee Abul Hasnat Md Wadud stated in the report that ACC investigation officials seem to be responsible for misidentifying Jahalom.

Officials of Brac Bank and other banks and the identifiers led the ACC officials to make the mistake, he said.

But it was the probe officials' duty to reveal the real incident and took it to the court, added the ACC director.

On Thursday, the HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader fixed July 16 for the next hearing.

Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the ACC and lawyer Amit Das Gupta moved for Jahalom, at the courtroom. Lawyer Md Asaduzzaman moved for Brac Bank.

The court on April 17 asked for a report from ACC on who were responsible for the mistake carried out on Jahalom.
Jahalom, who had worked at a jute mill in Narsingdi, was grilled for three years, after he was wrongly recognized as one Abu Salek, an accused in a case over embezzling money from Sonali Bank.

ACC’s responsibility got questioned after Jahalom was released from Kashimpur Central Prison-2 in Gazipur on February 4.
