The Turkish forces have agreed to take the control of the Hamid Karzai International Airport if the NATO allies provide supports, the Turkish Defense Minister stated in a meeting with its NATO allies.

Hulusi Akar, the Turkish Defense Minister in a meeting with its NATO allies have said that the 500 Turkish forces in Afghanistan will take the control and responsibility of the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, if financial, logistic and political supported is provided by alies.

Akar discussed these issues at a NATO defence ministers meeting held during the Deniz Kurdu (Sea Wolf) military exercises at Turkey’s Aksaz Naval Base, located in the southeast coast of the Aegean Sea in Marmaris, Muğla, Hürriyet reported. 

This comes as the withdrawal of the foreign forces which is scheduled to be completed by September 11 have increased concerns among the international community and the diplomatic mission’s presence in Afghanistan.

At the same time, Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S special envoy for the Afghan peace process has initiated his travels to Kabul, Doha and the regional countries in order to provide assistance to the process.

In Kabul he met, the Afghan leaders including Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Dr. Abdullah and Hamid Karzai.
