The 3rd Bangladesh Film Festival kicked off in Kolkata, India on Friday (Feb 5). Information Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Hasan Mahmud inaugurated the festival as the chief guest.

Minister for Science and Technology, government of West Bengal Bratya Basu and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla joined the festival as the guest of honour.

A total of 32 Bangladeshi films will be screened during the five-day festival. 

The films to be screened at the festival include Jalaler Golpo, Krishnopokkho, Oggatonama, Rajadhiraj Razzak, Under Construction, Debi, Podmo Patar Jol, Abar Boshonto, Maya: The Lost Mother, No Dorai,  Ankhi O Tar Bandhura, Fagun Haway, Iti Tomari Dhaka, Bhuban Majhi, Pora Mon and No Dorai.

Among the films Jalaler Golpo, Krishnopokkho, Oggatonama, Rajadhiraj Razzak, Ankhi O Tar Bandhura, Fagun Haway and Iti Tomari Dhaka have been produced by country’s popular production house Impress Telefilm.

Besides film screening, a photo exhibition titled ‘Bangabandhu and Bangladesh’ will be held during the festival. Dr. Mahmud also inaugurated the art exhibition on the life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to mark his birth centenary.

Dr. Mahmud said in his inaugural address that India and Bangladesh have to increase their cultural ties so that nothing can create division among the people of the two friendly countries.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that India-Bangladesh ties are time tested and based on shared sacrifice. He emphasised the need to further enhance the people to people contact between the two countries.
