JS passes amendment bills to publish HSC results

The parliament has passed three amendment bills keeping provision to publish the results of HSC and its equivalent examinations if the exams could not be held under special circumstances.

The bills were passed by voice vote after the Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni placed them during parliament session on Sunday.

These bills are- 'Intermediate and Secondary Education (Amendment) Bill, 2021', 'Bangladesh Technical Education Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021' and 'Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021'.

The bills will now be sent to the President for final approval.

Earlier on January 19, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni placed the bills in the House and those were sent to the respective Parliamentary Standing Committee for further examination.

As per the existing laws, there is no provision to publish the results of the HSC and its equivalent examinations without holding examinations.

Since it was not possible to hold examinations amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the amendment bills were passed.

Earlier on October 7 last year, the education minister announced that HSC and its equivalent examinations will not be held this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the results will be determined by averaging the results of Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations of students, she then said.

All educational institutions of the country declared closed on March 18 last year in wake of Covid-19 outbreak. Later that closure was extended till January 30, 2021 in several phases. No classes have been held since that day.
