Fresh scrutiny, if any institution not qualify for MPO Education Minister Dr Dipu Mon speaking to reporters

DHAKA:  Education Minister Dipu Moni said the government will go for fresh scrutiny if any educational institution will not qualify for MPO (monthly pay order) scheme.

The minister said this while exchanging views with reporters at the ministry on Sunday (October 27).

Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain attended the meeting.

The minister said no educational institutions were included in MPO status out of political favor.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina published the list of MPO affiliation of some 2730 educational institutions at Ganabhaban on October 25.  It was stated that the government payroll for teachers and employees of these institutions are to be paid from the financial year 2019-20.

For the last time, the government gave MPO status to 624 educational institutions in 2010. A good number of institutions were given MPO status this time, following its closure for a long time.

However, there has been widespread criticism for not having the infrastructure of the institutions, Jamaat-held and other disqualified institutions.

It was alleged that disqualified institutions were given MPO status, ignoring the list given by MPs and ministers of the government party.

However, the Ministry of Education said MPO status was given to institutions which fulfilled all requirements of the list given automatically through computerized system and through software.
