SAU sues 3 bus staff over Wasim’s death

SYLHET: Three staff of the bus from where Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) student Wasim Abbas pushed off to death were accused in a case.

SAU Proctor Prof Mrittunjoy Kundu, as a plaintiff, filed the case on Monday (March 25).

The accused are—Udar Pariban bus driver Jewel Ahmed, 26, helper Masuk Ali, 40, and supervisor Sebul Mia.

Moulvibazar sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Sohel Ahmed confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Gias Uddin of the same police station will investigate the case. 

The driver and the helper, who were detained earlier, were sent to jail upon court order showing them arrested under section-54 Sunday (March 24).

Police will plead for 10-day remand for each of the duo, said the SI. 

The proctor filed the case as per the varsity authority’s decision, said SAU Registrar Badrul Islam Suyeb. 

Wasim Abbas, 21, was reportedly run over by a bus of Udar Paribahan after pushing off the same moving vehicle in Sherpur Muktijoddha Chattar area of Moulvibazara on Sylhet-Dhaka Highway on Saturday (March 23) afternoon.

Son of one Mahbub Ghuri in Rudrogram area of Habiganj, Wasim was a final year Masters student at SAU.

Aggrieved at the death, Wasim’s fellows at SAU staged demonstration in Sylhet city demanding the guilty must face punishment.
