DHAKA: A faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) staged demonstration demanding reelection to the post of Vice President for University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu).
Besides, boycotting the classes, leavers-activists of the other panels which boycotted the Ducsu election also staged demonstration at separate areas on the campus demanding removal of the DU vice-chancellor and reelection.
Supporters of BCL nominated vice president candidate Rezwanul Haque Chosdhury Shovan took position in front of the vice chancellor’s residence early on Tuesday (Mar 12) rejecting the election of Nurul Haque Nur as vice president of Ducsu.
The Agitating students set tyres on fire near the VC residence and were seen chanting slogans demanding re-election to the post of VP bringing allegation of rigging of votes in the Ducsu polls held on Monday (Mar 11).
Although all panels except BCL boycotted the election alleging irregularities, Nur, a joint convener of Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council, was declared elected by DU Vice Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman.
The panels of leftists, independents, quota reformists and others were staging protests at TSC in rejection of the election and demanding a re-election to Ducsu.
Meanwhile, leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student front of BNP, took position in front of Aporajeyo Bangla and were chanting slogan demanding resignation of VC and new schedule for DUCSU elections.
They brought allegation of irregularities in the election citing that ‘university administration was involved in the act’.
Quota reformists’ leader Nurul Haq Nur takes top post of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) and Bangladesh Chhatra Legaue (BCL) candidate Golam Rabbani bagged the post of general secretary.
Nurul Haq Nur secured 11,062 votes while BCL's GS candidate Golam Rabbani secured 10,484 and AGS candidate Saddam Hossain around 15,000 votes.
