102 DU students expelled, teacher sacked

DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Dhaka University authorities expelled 102 students of different departments of the varsity and affiliate colleges on charges of taking unfair means in the examinations.  

Besides, Nur Uddin Alo, a teacher of Political Science department of Dhaka University (DU), was sacked for his moral turpitude.

Confirming the matter, the University Proctor Professor M Amzad Ali told banglanews, “The decision was taken in a syndicate meeting with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair on Sunday night.”

Proctor office sources said that on May 20, the university in a disciplinary board meeting recommended to expel 102 students and Sunday’s Syndicate meeting approved the recommendation. 

On the other hand, Syndicate member professor Dr Lutfar Rahman told banglanews it was cleared that the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree of Political Science Department teacher Nur Uddin Alo was fake and the university sacked him for his moral turpitude. 

As per recommendation of probe committee and academic council, the University syndicate canceled Nur Uddin Alo PhD degree for falsifying data in his research on September 12 last.

The proctor office sources said most of the expelled students are of affiliate colleges and some 25-30 students are of different departments of Dhaka University.
