97 DU students ousted from SM Hall

DU: Dhaka University (DU) unit Chhatra League Monday night allegedly threw out some 97 students of honours first year from Sir Salimullah Muslim (SM) Hall for not having ‘certificates’ of Chhatra League.

Sources said general secretary of SM Hall unit Chhatra League Didar Mohammad Nijamul Islam and his supporters drove out the students around 11:30pm.

Students claimed to banglanews that Chhatra League leaders called on them and asked to bring ‘certificates’ from local Awami League leaders to prove themselves as Chhatra League activists.

They also issued threat of ousting to the students from the hall within seven days in case of failing to acquire a ‘certificate’, expelled students added.

Hall sources said followers of general secretary of SM Hall unit Chhatra League threw out 97 students after a day of the threat.

Didar Mohammad Nijamul Islam told banglanews, “We said that many students of second and third year yet to get any seat in the hall. We also asked them (1st Year students) to communicate later when it will be possible to arrange seats for them.”

In response to a question, Didar said, we asked the students to share their political identities, if there is any and denied the matter of giving ultimatum.

Acting provost of SM Hall Mahbubul ALam Joardar avoided the matter saying “They are not legal students of the hall.”
