DHAKA: Over 100 persons, including students and police, were injured in a clash outside Jagannath University (JnU)`s Tibet Hall on Sunday morning.

Sources said that violence broke out when police stepped in while university students were trying to evict encroachers from Tibet Hall around 11:30am.

There were unruly scenes as students and police chased each other. Eventually, police fired tear-gas shells and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.

University officials claimed that more than 200 students were hurt. The police said that 20-25 law enforcers sustained injuries while trying to bring the situation under control.

Violence had, however, not abated at the time of filing this report.

Independently elected member of the parliament, Haji Mohammad Selim, had allegedly occupied Tibet Hall in Islampur area and used it as shopping mall since long.
