PM urges businessmen to stand against propaganda

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon the country’s businesspersons to act against the propaganda now being carried out against the government in abroad as it ultimately affects the businesses.

The premier was talking to newly elected leaders of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Wednesday (September 4).

“There are some people in our country who are out to conduct propaganda against government as part of their efforts to harm me politically. Business community should address it as you are being affected by it,” she said.

Referring to a meeting held in London with Bangladeshi envoys stationed in the European countries, PM Hasina said she had asked the envoys to explore new markets for the Bangladeshi products.

A delegation of BGMEA, led by its president Dr Rubana Huq, called on the Prime Minister and put forwarded various demands before her.

Sheikh Hasina said they want to harm me politically. But you (businessmen) are affected. The businessmen will have to address it.

The Prime Minister said, “We want to build a developed Bangladesh, from all sides. And even though our economy is agricultural, it does not accelerate the development of any country without industrialization. This is the reality. That’s why we give importance to agriculture as well as industry.”
