‘Tourism board knows nothing about tourism’

TEA HEAVEN RESORT (SREEMANGAL): Dhaka University Tourism and Hotel Management Department Assistant Professor Bodruzzaman Bhuiyan alleged that the Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) knows nothing about tourism.

He said that the board spent Tk 10 crore in a night “by singing and dancing” in Cox’s Bazar but it did not yield any result.

“The authorities ignored local people and did not take others opinions. Tourism does not develop in this way,” he added.

Mentioning tourism sector as the second largest revenue earning sector of the world, DU Professor Dr. Afzal Hossain said, you need to employ workforce in ready made garments or other sectors but you not to do almost anything in tourism.

“Our coordinated effort can make the tourism sector of Bangladesh as the best in the world.”

Reiterating Bhuiyan’s opinion, Dr. Afzal Hossain said it is true that the BTB is almost doing nothing.

“They get appointment by chance. They used to work in different ministries before getting an appointment here in BTB. They know nothing of tourism. Tourism-friendly ministry is a must to extend the sector,” he added.

Praising Banglanews24.com Professor Afzal Hossain also said Bangladesh’s tourism sector can be world’s top sector if other media follow its footstep.

Putting emphasis on creating awareness, traveler Riasad Sanvi asked how the tourists will enjoy wild lives if they enter the forests while playing high pitch music.

Tea Heaven Resort owner Abu Siddique M Musa said we need to attract more tourists here as Sreemangal is a beautiful and peaceful place.

AKM Mosharraf Hossain, senior assistant super of tourism police, said they have deployed enough police members to ensure security of tourists and hotels.

“Tourism sector will get benefit if we can employ community police.”

He also said they train their members on how to behave with tourists properly.

Sreemangal press club’s general secretary Idris Ali praised Banglanews24.com’s approach saying it as timely.
