Where hard labour brings result

From KUALA LUMPUR: Dr. Sabiul Islam is working here as an Associate Professor at the National University ‘University Kebangsan Malaysia (UKM). Many students coming from different universities are doing Ph.D under him at Institute of Micro-Engineering and Nano Electronics (IMEN).

My introduction with Dr. Sabiul happened for the first time on last Tuesday at UKM’s Micro/Nano electronics laboratory of Selangar province of Malaysia. He gave me time after sometime. He told Banglanews about the background of his aim of how to establish himself and how to help establish the students of his own country.

After completing his studies at Rajshahi University he worked at Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission when Dr. Wajed Mia(Husband of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina) was a member of the commission. Next he came to Malaysia on December 20 of 1993 for doing Master of Engineering program.

After that he did not look behind. He worked at UKM as Research Assistant. Then he used to get little sum of pocket money.

Next he worked as a Lecturer for ten years at Syber Zia Multimedia University. During this time he obtained Ph.D as a part timer. He worked as a senior Lecturer there.

Sabiul feels that time as a memorable time at Multimedia University.

In 2002 Dr. Sabiul did something for the Bangladeshi students. He told that ‘when I was a teacher of Multimedia University I observed that the expenditure of this country is almost equal to Bangladeshi private universities and moreover the quality here is better so I requested the Vice Chancellor Datuk Gauth Jansmon to bring Bangladeshi students. He responded to my request.’

I came back to country after official decision and arranged three seminars.

Sabiul narrated his experience that he arranged a seminar at Hotel Sonargaon where two hundred students and their guardians attended whom I showed new dreams. Now there are more than 200 students at Multimedia University. Mentionably there are 20 female students.

He informed that we appointed an agent in Bangladesh for bringing students from Bangladesh for studying Engineering in Multimedia University.

About Bangladeshi students he informed that here it is not good to do under graduation in all universities. Those are good where the reading medium is in English. In this case Multimedia University, Monas University and Nottingham University are fairly better.

However for post graduation UKM quality universities are good. There are ample opportunities for research work.  Dr. Sabiul joined UKM in 2009.

Sabiul encourages those who want to come here for higher education. Sabiul thinks that you will get good results if you do hard labor.

About some negative conception about Malaysia in Bangladesh Sabiul told that this country is totally different which was thirty years back.

The post graduate students of UKM get 2000 thousand Ringit. The culture of this place is good enough. There is opportunity to come across with many nationalities. So much I can tell that those who got admitted in good universities they did not commit any mistake.

There is a scope of staying here after completion of studies. Apart from that there is scope of going to Europe, America and Australia for higher studies.

But one must obtain Ph.D after doing Masters if he wants to stay here permanently. Ph.D is counted here with high regard.
Dr. Sabiul was brought up in Palashdanga of Gaibandha district.

Presently this Associate Professor is living at Bangi with wife and two children.
