The Freddie Mercury biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" took best picture, drama, over Bradley Cooper's heavily favoured "A Star is Born" in the Golden Globes 2019.

Bohemian Rhapsody was the surprise winner of best film - and, in a further unexpected triumph, it's star Rami Malek won the award for best actor.

"A Star Is Born" came into the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, as the presumed heavyweight and Oscar favourite. But Bradley Cooper's remake went home with just one award, for the song "Shallow."

Glenn Close won best actress (drama) for The Wife, defeating the strong fovourite Lady Gaga.

Olivia Colman, Ben Whishaw, Richard Madden and Christian Bale have all brought home Golden Globes in an excellent night for British talent.

Colman, who won best actress (comedy) for her role as Queen Anne in The Favourite, could not hide her delight as she accepted the award, telling the audience: "I had so much fun!"
