DHAKA: BNP leaders once served the armed forces met at a hotel in the capital’s Gulshan today.

The meeting was followed by lunch apparently to show it as a mere get-together only.

Party insiders said that the retired armed forces personnel in different rank and file of the BNP discussed about country’s ongoing political situation and the latest developments.

“The meeting lasted from 2.15pm to 3.30 pm,” an insider said confirming the meeting.

Among the retired armed forces personnel joined the meeting were BNP’s standing committee member and former army chief, Lt. Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, party’s vice chairman and an advisor to BNP chairperson, Lt. (retd) Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, Bir Bikram, Maj. (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, former air chief Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and Col. (retd) Shahjahan.

Barrister Shahjahan Omar, Bir Bikram, was also present.

When contacted, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury ruled out that they had any formal meeting.

“It’s just seeing each other, it’s a get-together... nothing more than that,” he said.

Party insiders however considered the meeting as an important development in the country’s politics.

Intelligence agencies also took the meeting as an important development.
