Chhatra Dal leader killed in Sylhet infighting

SYLHET: A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader was killed in a factional clash among two groups of the BNP’s student wing, before the residence of Sylhet City Corporation mayor nominee Ariful Haque Choudhury.

The deceased was identified as Faizur Rahman Raju.

Besides, two others sustained injuries in the clash. Vandalism was also reported.

Police and party sources said Raju was an activist of Emran-Nachon-Aziz group of Chhatra Dal.

The group engaged in a clash with Rakib-Rajab group, another group of Chhatra Dal, in front of Ariful Haque Choudhury’s residence in Kumarpara area of the city, around 9:30pm. 

Three of them—Raju, Ujjal and another one, sustained bullet and stab injuries, in the clash. They were taken to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Of them, Raju succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

Osmani Medical College Hospital Deputy Director Dr Debbrata Roy confirmed the matter. 

Witnesses said that the clash erupted over formation of the Chhatra Dal committee.

Efforts are on to nab the persons involved in the murder, Sylhet Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mosharraf Hossain told Banglanews.
