DHAKA: The state has filed a petition challenging High Court order that granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed under special powers act for committing act of sabotage in Cumilla.

On Tuesday (August 7), Chamber Justice Hassan Foyez Siddiqi sent the appeal to the full bench for hearing on August 9.

A HC bench of Justice A K M Assaduzzaman and Justice SM Mujibur Rahman granted 6 months’ bail to Khaleda Zia on Monday (August 6).

Khandaker Mahbub Hossain pleaded for bail while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state.

The case was filed in connection with vandalizing vehicles in Chouddagram upazila of Cumilla on February 3, 2015.

However, on February 8, a Dhaka court sentenced five years’ imprisonment to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia orphanage Trust graft case. She was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict.
