SC order on Khaleda's bail in another Cumilla case Tuesday

DHAKA: The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Monday fixed Tuesday for issuing an order on a leave-to-appeal filed against a High-court order that granted bail to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case filed over the arson attack in Cumilla.

A three-member bench of the division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain fixed the date as the hearing of the leave-to-appeal petition ended.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state while Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, AJ Mohammad Ali and Joynul Abedin moved for Khaleda Zia.

Earlier on May 28, the High Court granted bail for six months to BNP chief Khaleda Zia in two cases filed in Cumilla.

Later, the government filed a petition with the Supreme Court Appellate Division seeking a stay on the bail order.

During the BNP-led alliance's movement on February 3 in 2015, eight people were killed and 20 others injured as miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram of Cumilla.

Two cases were filed against Khaleda following the incident.
