SC stays Khaleda’s bail order in 2 Comilla cases

DHAKA: A Chamber court of the Appellate Division has stayed the High Court order granting six months bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in two sabotage cases filed in Comilla.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hassan Foyez Siddique passed the order Tuesday (May 29) following a writ filed by the government seeking stay on the HC order.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Dr. Md. Bashir Ullah moved for the state while lawyers Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, AJ Mohammad Ali, and Zainul Abedin moved for Khaleda Zia in the court.

Earlier on Monday morning (May 28), the HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan granted bail to Khaleda Zia in two cases; however, rejected bail in a libel case of Narail as it had not been placed before it.

Later in the day, the government filed an appeal with the Chamber Court of Appellate Division seeking stay on the High Court bail order.
