PM’s next visit to India lacks Teesta agenda: BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi briefs the media

DHAKA: Ahead of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official visit to India, BNP spokesperson Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the premier doesn’t have any agenda on Teesta river water sharing this time also.

Awami League has declared over last eight years that they are going to ink Teesta deal with India, but, they couldn’t make it happen, he said.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was addressing a press briefing, at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, at 11:30am Thursday (May 24).

“Foreign Affairs Minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali couldn’t announce any progress on the much-sought Teesta water sharing agreement, at the press briefing at the foreign affairs ministry Wednesday (May 23),” he said.

“Years pass by, and the ‘illegal government’ of Bangladesh is giving India everything unilaterally. But, the people of Bangladesh don’t realize the legal share of water,” he added.

“To sustain the power, Sheikh Hasina has been giving India everything by making the sovereignty decaying, but couldn’t get anything in return,” Rizvi said further.

BNP leaders including Vice-Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia Habibur Rahman Habib, Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, among others, attended the press briefing.
