DHAKA: Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali said the process is underway to bring back BNP’s acting chairperson Tarique Rahman from UK.

The Minister came up with this remark at a press briefing organized on 5th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), at the ministry, on Thursday (May 3).

Asked whether letters were sent to British government from Bangladesh government to bring Tarique Rahman back to the country, the Minister said, "Talks are going on. We will take our next steps following response from the UK government."

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a press conference held at Ganabhaban, stated that legal procedure will be continued internationally to bring back BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman who is now staying in London.

Tarique, facing over a dozen of cases, has been living in London with his family for ten years.

Tarique Rahman was sentenced to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8. He was convicted along with his mother BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the same case.
