DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is now serving jail in a corruption case, has asked her party leaders and activists to continue movement in peaceful manner, said general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

An eight-member team of BNP senior leaders led by Fakhrul visited Khaleda in the old central prison in Nazimuddin Road of old part of Dhaka Wednesday (March 7). Khaleda conveyed the message to the team, for her followers.

“The leader (Khaleda) is tackling everything with bravery. She said to the countrymen through us that she is in high confidence. Her physical condition is also well”, Fakhrul told media in a briefing at around 4:30pm.

“She is ready for any sacrifice for sake of the country. Should march forward with continuing movement peacefully. Truth will be established someday”, he added.

Earlier, the BNP leaders entered the prison at around 3:00pm. A list of them was submitted to the prison authorities seeking permission to meet Khaleda.

Prison sources said that eight senior BNP leaders met Khaleda at the prison office room at around 3:15pm.

Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar, Dr Moyeen Khan, Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru and Abdus Sattar were among the listed given permission.

However, a Dhaka special court sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8.
