DHAKA: Tarique Rahman has been made the Acting Chairman of BNP, said Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Rizvi was briefing the media at BNP’s central party office in Nayapaltan on Thursday night (February 8).  

“Tarique Rahman will lead the party as the Acting Chairman”, Rizvi said.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Advocate Sanaullah Mia and Baby Nazneen were among others present there.

Tarique, however, has been living in London for nine years.

On Thursday, a Dhaka court handed over the jail term to six persons including Khaleda Zia and Tarique in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. Khaleda was sent to jail on the same day.

In July 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case accusing them for misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore grant money for orphans.
