Rangpur city mayor, councilors take oath

DHAKA: The newly elected mayor and councilors of the Rangpur City Corporation took oath on Thursday (January 18).

The oath-taking ceremony was held at Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Dhaka in the morning.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath of the newly elected Rangpur city mayor.

Prime Minister’s special envoy and Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad, LGRD Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, state minister for the LGRD ministry Mashiur Rahman Ranga were also present at the time.

Secretary of LGRD ministry Abdul Malek conducted the oath-taking ceremony.

Later, the LGRD minister administered the oath of the councilors of 33 general wards and 11 female councilors of the reserved seats of Rangpur City Corporation.

She said that her government established Rangpur City Corporation and also declared Rangpur as a division. The government has been implementing various development programs in the city. The government will take more initiatives for development of the city.  

The Jatiya Party-nominated mayor candidate Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa won the Rangpur polls defeated ruling Awami League’s candidate Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu. The polls were held on December 21.
