AL more upset over DNCC by-polls stay: Quader

COMILLA: Ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said his party is more disappointed than others over the High Court stay order on Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral by-polls.

Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges minister, made the comment while visiting roads on Comilla-Noakhali highway in Laksam upazila on Thursday morning (January 18).

He said, “BNP leaders are competing with one another for giving anti-government speech. The candidate AL chose for the DNCC by-polls has a clean image but BNP nominated candidate has been accused in Paradise Paper scandal. AL had the 100 percent chance of winning the election.”

Earlier on Jan 17, the HC stayed the DNCC by-polls for three months following a writ petition. After the order, many BNP leaders have alleged that Awami League is behind this move. As a response, Quader made the remarks today.
