Constitution not above people: Moudud

NOAKHALI: BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed has said that the constitution is formulated for the people. The people are not for the constitution. So, the constitution is not above the people, he said.  

The senior leader of the BNP and former law minister said these while speaking at the executive committee meeting of the Noakhali district BNP held at a local community centre at Maizdi in Noakhali on Friday (November 24).

The district unit president Golam Haider chaired the meeting, while some other senior leaders of the party spoke it. Among them, BNP vice chairmen Mohammad Shahjahan and Barkat Ullah Bulu, chairperson’s adviser Joynul Abdin Farroque, joint secretary general Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and organizing secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim and Shamima Barkar Lucky.

Moudud Ahmed said that the constitution won’t be barrier to hold the next general elections under a non-party neutral government. The country is now passing through a deep crisis moment. The government has to resolve the crisis through compromise, he added.  

He further said that the next elections must be held under caretaker government system. The Parliament has to be dissolved before 90 days of the elections and army will be deployed during the elections, he said.  

Moudud Ahmed, also former law minister of the BNP government, said that the BNP and its chief Khaleda Zia will reach the people. The people will restore their democratic rights under the leadership of Khaleda Zia.
