Rizvi demands Selim Bhuiyan’s release

DHAKA: BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed demanded immediate release of the party’s central leader Selim Bhuiyan, who is also former principal of AK High School & College.

The BNP leader made the demand at a human chain formed in front of the National Press Club in the city on Friday (November 24).

Shikkyak-Kormochari Oikya Jote, a pro-BNP platform of teachers and employees of school and colleges, formed the human chain demanding release of its chairman Selim Bhuiyan.

BNP chairperson’s advisers Abdus Salam and Farhad Halim Donar, leader of the Shikkyak-Kormochari Oikya Jote Md Jakir Hossain and Juba Dal leader Gias Uddin Mamun also spoke at the human chain, among others.

Speaking at the program, Rizvi Ahmed came down heavily on the government for creating chaos in the country. He said that the people will also create chaos if the government continues chaotic situation.

He criticized the government for not allowing a discussion which was arranged on the occasion of birth anniversary of BNP vice-chairman Tarique Rahman. The government fears Tarique Rahman, he said.

The BNP leader also criticized the government for increasing the price of power.

A Dhaka court on Thursday (November 22) sent Selim Bhuiyan to jail after rejecting his bail plea in a case filed for misappropriating Tk. 3.16 crore of AK School and College fund in the capital's Demra.
He allegedly misappropriated the amount while he was the principal of the institution.

Md Shamsul Islam, the incumbent principal of the school and college, filed the graft case on March 23 this year.
