MP Rana denied bail

DHAKA: The High Court (HC) on Sunday (November 19) rejected the bail appeal of Tangail-3 constituency Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, in a case filed over freedom fighter Faruk murder case.

An HC bench of Justices Borhan Uddin Khan and Md Ashraful Kamal discarded the rule seeking bail for Rana.

“(The court) has rejected the rule. Besides, instruction has been made to dissolve the case within six months. Moreover, the prison authorities have been directed to produce Rana in each days of trial at the judge court”, Deputy Attorney General Nojibur Rahman told Banglanews.

Barrister Rokonuddin Mahmud moved for Rana at the courtroom.
Lawyer Nurul Islam Sujon accompanied him.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Nojibur Rahman moved for the state.

Earlier on September 6, court of Tangail Additional District and Sessions Judge Abul Mansur Mia started the trial by framing charge against Rana. However, he did not appear before court for hearing.

Aside from MP Rana, 14 others including three brothers of Rana are facing charges in the sensational murder case.

On January 18 in 2013, freedom fighter and Awami League's Tangail District Committee member Faruk Ahmed was shot dead. Later a case was filed in this connection accusing MP Rana and others. Rana surrendered before a trial court on Sep 18 and sent to jail. He is currently in Kashimpur prison.
