Maulana Bhashani first called for independence: Fakhrul

DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that country’s legendary leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani first called for the independence of Bangladesh.  

He said this while speaking at a discussion at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Saturday (November 18).

Bhashani Smriti Sangsad arranged the discussion to mark the 41st death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani.

Former ministers Jakaria Khan Chowdhury and Noor Mohammad Khan, secretary general of Jatiya Party (Zafor) Mostafa Jamal Haider and BNP chairperson’s adviser Nazmul Haque Nannu also spoke at the function, among others, with president of Bhashani Smriti Sangsad Ziaul Haque Milu in the chair.

Mirza Fakhrul said that Maulana Bhashani first declared the independence of Bangladesh by uttering ‘Assalamu Alaikum’ to Pakistan. The country’s legendary leader sacrificed for the people in his whole life, he added.

He expressed his annoyance with the government for not allowing program at Santosh in Tangail on the occasion of Maulana Bhashani’s death anniversary.

He also criticized the government for compelling the sholl teachers, students, bankers and others to join the rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan.
